A corroded and worn Medieval copper alloy casket or chest key. The key has a circular bow which is worn thin at the furthest end perhaps caused by being suspended from this point. The shank is hollow and the bit has the remains of several clefts along its sides. Egan The Medieval Household Daily Living c1150-c1450 (1998) p 112 illustrates similar examples which are dated through ceramic association to 1270 -1350 AD.
