An incomplete, Iron Age, cast, copper alloy, Le Tene 1 bow brooch. This brooch is minus the spring and pin. Slightly elongated, undecorated bow of oval section, foot returned parallel to catch plate, it's terminal just touching the bow. The foot return terminal being composed of two now broken openwork probable loops and the terminal flared out trumpet like just before it comes into contact with the bow. Dark green glossy patina remaining on approximately half the brooch, otherwise a matt surface but some spots of pale green verdigris. There is a rusty brown stain on the last section of the spring area. This brooch is likely to date to the 4th-2nd Century BC. Ref. Brooches of Antiquity, R. Hattatt, Oxbow Books 1987, page 14-15 no. 724 and Ancient Brooches and Other Artefacts, R. Hattatt, Oxbow Books 1989, page 13-15 no. 1448. The brooch is 40.9mm long, 7.64mm wide, 15.56mm thick and weighs 5.9g.
