A complete, Post Medieval, milled, gold, half escudo coin of Joseph I of Portugal. Obverse: Draped bust of Joseph right, date below. Inscription: IOSEPHUS.I.D.G.PORT.ET.AL(G) REX. Reverse: Crowned Arms. Inscription: None. Minted in Portugal. Die axis: 12 o'clock. Little wear, attractive gold colour but slightly distorted and folded by the plough. This coin dates to 1751. Ref. Standard Catalogue of World Coins Vol.2, Chester L. Krause & Clifford Mishler, Krause Publications USA, page 2374 no. 244.2. The coin is 16.58mm long, 16.25mm wide, 0.71mm thick, 16.58mm diameter and weighs 1.7g.
