Copper alloy shield shaped mount bearing a single 5.5mm wide incised band running from top left to bottom right. This may have been inlaid with enamel but no trace survives.
Notes:
The object has been referred to Mrs Irene Szymanski who dated the form of the shield to the late 13th century. While the heraldic 'Bend' is a common device Mrs Szymanski suggested that these mount may have belonged to William de Stopham (obit. 1317) who had lands in the area.
