Post medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), initial mark hand, dated 1591 on coin, North 2015.
The coin appears pitted and in places the silver surface seems to have almost peeled away leaving a blacker, base silver centre exposed. This may be the effect of corrosion on a coin naturally surface enriched through striking or may indicate it is a contemporary copy which has been delibreately plated or surface enriched. The design is, in some places, a bit crude but as these coins were produced in large numbers that is also not uncommon on genuine coins particular as dies became very worn.
