A fragment of a Roman bow/fibula brooch. The nature of the surviving fragment suggests this is part of a mid to late 1st century Colchester derivative brooch.
The lower part of the bow survives, as does the foot. The bow is of roughly triangular section, the upper surface having a central vertical ridge. The openwork catchplate has a rolled outer side. The brooch is corroded. It measures 35.1mm long, up to 6.2mm wide and weighs 4.8g.
