A fragment of a Roman copper-alloy T-shaped brooch dating to the late first to early second century AD. The artefact consists of a cylindrical wing which would to hold the axis bar for the hinged pin. the axis bar is still visible within the wing, the wing has a number of horizontal incisions which are abraded.


It is now 16.35 mm long, 6.85 mm wide including the wing and 6.2 mm thick; it weighs 2.78 grams.

T-shaped brooches are very variable in the decoration on their bows. Bayley and Butler (2004:167) suggest this type is mainly South Western in distribution and dates to the later first - early 2nd century AD (c75-150)
