Roman incomplete cast copper alloy T-shaped brooch dating to the late first to early second century AD. The head has two cylindrical wings to hold the axis bar for the hinged pin, both now missing which would have moved in the slot on the underside of the head. The wings are decorated at the ends with simple transverse incised lines, four on both sides. There is an incomplete tab or loop at the head.
The bow has a C shaped cross section with a concave back. It projects at 90 degrees from the head and has a gentle and continuous curve to the foot. The bow narrows gradually but consistently towards foot. It has moulded decoration on the front consisting of five raised ridges. There are sets of parallel raised ridges with a central prominent ridge. The central ridge has two adjacent perforations just above the middle of the bow. The side ridges end about a quarter of the way down the bow as it narrows and the central is broken just below two horizontal ridges.
It is now 30.15 mm long, 30.55 mm wide including the wing and 10.2 mm thick; it weighs 8.33grams.
T-shaped brooches are very variable in the decoration on their bows. Bayley and Butler (2004:167) suggest this type is mainly South Western in distribution and dates to the later first - early 2nd century AD (c75-150)
