An incomplete cast copper alloy Early Medieval stirrup terminal of the Anglo-Scandinavian period dating to the 11th Century, or possibly slightly later. The zoomorphic terminal is roughly D-shaped in section with a hollow reverse where the stirrup arms would have slotted into the terminal. The terminal depicts a beast's head in Ringerike art style having a pronounced open snout, elongated eyes and rounded ears. One of the small spurs projecting downwards from beneath the eyes is missing, otherwise the stirrup terminal is worn but in good condition. This stirrup terminal can be compaired to Williams's (1997) figure 4c. A number of similar artefacts have been recorded on this database, for example SF-FDAFF3.
