Post Medieval, 17th century, cast copper-alloy circular bridle boss. The boss is a hollow hemisphere, with an openwork design and a flat border around the edge. A break to one side has removed part of the border and one of the pair of rivet holes. The boss has a raised central knop, around which is the openwork main body, consisting of slim curving arms. The less worn arms are decorated with a scale like patten of raised semi-circles running down each arm and incised lines down their inner sides which continue at the base to meet the base of the next arm. Around this is a narrow ropework border. The outer flat border consists of roughly triangular projections with a repeating simple vegetal pattern of paired curved raised lines making heart shapes the points of which curve out and form trefoil terminals. This border includes one complete circular rivet hole with a second, 180 degrees from the first, mostly lost to the break.
It is 59.6 mm in diameter, 14.8mm thick and weighs 27.38 grams.
