MOUNT

Unique ID: HAMP-D002C5

Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A corroded and incomplete sub-rectangular cast copper-alloy mount of post-medieval date. The object is flat with a main rectangular body which incurves at one end to a width of 4.4mm before an old break; it appears to be truncated at the other end due to old damage. Before the end narrows there is a pair of double transverse grooves on the upper surface between which possible decoration within a rectangular field now obscured by corrosion. The main body beyond has grooves running just inside the long edges. The field within appears plain, again perhaps a product of corrosion, apart from a sub-circular depression just before the transverse grooves described. The other surface is plain and corroded. The artefact now has a variable mid-green colour. The narrowed terminal curves upwards slightly in profile.
