A damaged and incomplete Late Iron Age/Early Roman cast copper-alloy brooch, probably best classified as being of the strip bow type. The brooch has a rectangular bow (W.: 11.0mm). The head is the widest point (11.9mm) and features a central removal (pin slot) and a cylinder formed by rolling the head forward on itself, as is the case for this type. Retained within the slot, looped around the axis bar, is the head of the pin, the rest of which is otherwise missing. The flat bow is decorated with low transverse ridges. Some of these rows are decorated with circular punches. Below the bow the brooch tapers to the leg, which is trapezoidal, tapering down its length to c. 5.2mm. The leg is decorated in longitudinal rows of punched circles between low ridges. The leg has been bent at a right angle to the bow as a result of old damage. The foot expands slightly to a width of c. 6.0mm before tapering to a point. Its top and bottom are decorated with a transverse rows of punches. The abraded sub-triangular catch-plate is located on the lower surface of the foot. The web of the catch-plate measures 6.4mm in length. The artefact has corroded to a red-brown colour with patches of green corrosion product. For conventional strip bow brooches see Hattatt (2000, 319; fig. 178).
