A fragment of the rim of a fine quality silver-gilt vessel, perhaps a bowl. The triangular section rim has an internal bead. The exterior of the bowl is decorated with a repeating series of lentoid shapes with the fields above being infilled with punched decoration.
Notes:
The object was found in a bag of finds of many dates sold on ebay as Anglo-Saxon. The finder is not known but the findspot was described as Hanley Castle, Worcs.
As we have no evidence that this find was discovered post-1997 we must evaluate it under Treasure Trove laws. Under Treasure Trove evidence would have to point to the object having been deliberately hidden with the intention of recovery. The object is most likely to be a casual loss and therefore does not constitute treasure.
Subsequent action after recording: Returned to finder after being declared not Treasure
