A worn and bent copper-alloy Medieval (probably 1200-1400) buckle plate from a single-loop buckle, measuring 31.07x14.07x5.24mm and weighing 3.8g. It still retains the bar from the missing buckle between its two projecting tabs.
The plate has been cast in one piece and bent around the axis bar of the frame (the projecting tabs). The upper side of the plate is rectangular in shape, widening in a curve to shoulders just below the tabs. Almost all patina has been lost but where it survives a single groove is apparent around the perimeter and three of five domed-head rivets survive in-situ (one being roughly central, the other four arranged in each corner. The rivets secure the upper plate to the slightly smaller back plate (28.01xmax.11.28mm), with a gap between for the (missing) strap. Patches of gilding survive on the upper plate, where the patina survives.
