An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) to Medieval cast copper-alloy buckle fragment (c. 1000-c. 1300). The fragment is flat and roughly semi-circular in plan. The straight side is intact and there has been some loss of material due to breaks or corrosion around the curved side. At each end of the straight side there is a small pointed projection with an abraded break at the end. The front of the object is decorated with a curvilinear design. The rear face is flat. At the front there is decayed buff coloured patina in some of the crevices of the design. Part of the surface is covered with copper-alloy corrosion products and the remaining areas are a brownish red colour. The rear face has patches of a decayed buff patina, perhaps enamel, and copper-alloy corrosion products. The remaining part of the surface is pitted and is a brownish red colour which is similar to the front. 35.5 x 17.1 x 1.6mm. Weight: 2.20g.
