Several small pieces of burned clay, possibly daub dating from from the prehistoric period, i.e. c. 2000BC-AD100. The material is white in colour and the fragments are very worn. It is likely that they are prehistoric, but they could date the Roman or medieval period. Unfortunately, the fragments are so small and/or worn that no impressions of the wattle (i.e. the wall material, that is sticks/branches/etc) remains on the inside.
Notes:
This is one of the artefacts that were discovered by members of Wyre Archaeology when excavating the Late Iron Age/early Roman settlement at the Bourne Hill site, Fylde, West Lancashire. The artefacts remain in the care of the society.
