A struck flint blade of Early Mesolithic dating (8300 to 6500 BC).
The blade is sub triangular in plan. The dorsal (upper) surface exhibits three main flake scars down the length of the blade. A small area of cortex is still present at the base of the blade. There is some deliberate retouch down the the right hand side, with some secondary pressure flaking down the left side. The ventral (lower) surface displays conchoidal rippling down the length of the blade, radiating down from the striking platform at the top.
The blade is a mid to dark colour, with little surface patination. A couple of uncontrolled flake scars are present, probably caused from movement within the ploughsoil.
The blade measures 70.26mm in length, 28.96mm wide and 6.84mm thick. It weighs 14.0 grams.
