Post Medieval: An incomplete copper alloy button back, of probable 18th Century dating.
It is sub circular in plan. The front may once have an animal design present, or there is a possiblity it is an antiquarian Roman revival button, displaying an image from a Roman coin or a reused coin. The back is plain, with the remains of the attachment loop flattened against the button back.
It is a mid green colour, with an even patina. It has suffered from a high degree of abrasion with the result that any original decorative image on the front of the button has since been lost.
It has a diameter of 16.42mm and is 1.35mm thick. It weighs 0.9g.
The button back is probably of 18th Century dating. There is a slim possibility that it was made of a reused Roman coin as part of the Antiquarian Roman revival tradition, but it is more likely a copper alloy imitation of one.
