A flake of stone probably a waste flake from making a Langdale Axe, dating from the Early Neolithic Period. There were quarries for the stone for axes in Langdale. The lumps of stone were roughly shaped at sites not far from the quarries before being taken down into the valleys to be ground and polished into their final form. This flake was probably removed when roughly shaping an axe. There are facets from previous removals on the flake. The stone is Langdale Tuff.
