A complete, corroded Roman denarius of Petillius Capitolinus, dating to the Republican period (43 BC). This is a silver-washed contemporary copy of the original, with obvious copper alloy corrosion underneath the surface wash. Obv.: eagle standing right on thunderbolt, wings spread; legend illegible. Rev.: Hexastyle Capitoline temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus and statues lining temple cornice; no discernible mint or legend. Cf. Sear Vol. 1, No. 486.
