An incomplete copper-alloy Colchester derivative (two-piece) brooch of 1st century date.
The wings are set below the top of the bow and consist of a horizontally-aligned half-cylinder, the underside facing slightly upwards. At the centre of the underside of the wings is a double pierced lug, the lower one of which would have held in place the axis bar, the upper (damaged) one, the external chord. No trace of the spring or pin remains. Only a small portion of the bow survives. It is of semi-circular section, has a decorative vertical groove at the centre of the upper surface and decreases in width and thickness towards the bottom.
The surfaces of the brooch are slightly corroded. It measures 12.9mm long, 16.5mm wide and weighs 2.15g.
