Copper Alloy

Seal Matrix. Cast circular seal matrix with incised device and circumferential legend; a medial rib and suspension loop on the reverse. The device appears to show two perched addorsed birds looking backwards to face each other with a three-leaf spray of foliage between them. The legend appears to begin with a pair of lys, and, as Rob Webley kindly notes: 'This seems to have the common FRANGE LEGE TEGE inscription', thereby correcting a mistaken reading by this reporter. Suggested date: Medieval, 1300-1350.

Diameter: 22.6mm, Thickness (clear of loop): 1.9mm, Weight: 4.74gms.

Inscription: FRANGE LEGE TEGE
