Copper Alloy Sword Pommel. Cast hollow pommel of average thickness 3.5mm with an apical sub-rectangular hole to engage the end of a sword tang, and a sub-rectangular rebate on the underside at either end, presumably engaging with either the handle or grip, or a separate base for the pommel. The object is flat-based, in this resembling Ward-Perkins' 'cocked hat' Type 1, but with five gently defined lobes. The overall form would suit an Anglo-Scandinavian date, though aspects of Viking styles were persistent in Danelaw counties, and a lobed form occurs on medieval pommels. Suggested date: Early Medieval to Medieval, 950-1150.

Height: 26.8mm, Width: 67.8mm, Thickness (overall): 22.7mm, Weight: 77.34gms.

Class: Pommel
