An early Roman strap-mounted terret fragment. Incomplete semi-circular or arc shaped fragment with oval cross-section of variable size around the ring. Narrow, sub-rectangular shaped loop attachment for a separate strap. There is an attractive glossy dark brown patina but also some rusty brown surface deposits from the water logged ground conditions. Truncated length 43mm, Truncated width 27.1mm, Thickness 7.8mm, Diameter 43mm, Weight 14.6g.
