Cast lead vessel repair (pot mend). It is roughly oval in plan and H-shaped in section with two irregularly shaped outer sides, one larger than the other, joined by a smaller central section. The smaller side is concave in the centre and the larger convex. In the 3.1mm wide groove created between the outer sides there are fragment of the original pot. The pottery has a bright orange fabric with common (c.20%) medium-coarse sand temper. It is 52.2 mm by 40.9mm, 19.2 mm thick and weighs 192.8 g.

Pot mends of this form are found in both Roman and Medieval periods, as a common way to repair broken pottery vessels. The fabric and thickness of the pot wall appears similar to Medieval cooking pots although it is too fragmentary to be completely certain. The unusual thickness of the concave side makes the mend very crude and heavy suggesting it must be from a robust vessel.
