A Medieval silver-gilt finger-ring (c. 1450-c. 1550). Treasure case no. 2011 T2.

An incomplete finger-ring with a bezel in the form of an angel clasping a heart in both hands. There is an incised cross on the breast. A small portion of the soldered hoop, D-shaped in cross-section, has 'rope-work' on the outer face. This finger-ring is slightly worn and the breaks are old.

17.6 x 11.8 x 2.4mm. Weight: 1.94g.

The find contains a minimum of 10% silver and predates 1711. It thus qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of precious metal content and age.

A similar silver-gilt finger-ring depicting an angel has been recorded from Newchurch, Isle of Wight (Treasure case 2009 T184).
