A cast, copper alloy zoomorphic spout from a late medieval ewer dating from 1400-1500AD. The spout is tubular and terminates in a dog's head with open mouth; the tube spout protrudes from the open mouth. At the other end the spout is broken just behind the head. The head has a moulded nose, prominent, squared brow, and rectangular grooved ears that protrude slightly above the head; the eyes are not distinguished. There is a raised ridge running from front to back on the top of the head. The spout has a dark green patina. A similar spout from a pedestal-base ewer can be found illustrated in Finds Research Group Datasheet 7 (Lewis, 1987, pages 4-5, figure 8a). It dates to the 15th century and was found in the moat at Cardiff Castle. Further spouts recorded on the database can be found at HAMP-109444, BERK-135A64, HESH-752594, and WAW-D138E8.
