A fragment of a medieval signet ring, part of the hoop lost. The bezel remains and is octagonal in shape, though much abraded around the edges. It contains the letters "I" and "G" within an incised cabled octagonal border. The bottom edge has suffered some damage. The shoulders of the ring reveal a cabled decoration.
The ring fragment is silver and dates from the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. Dimensions: length 24 mm, width 12 mm. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. J P Robinson
