A cast lead or lead alloy weight of probable Medieval date (1200-1500 AD). The weight is broadly circular in plan and regular in cross section. The upper face is relatively flat and has a series of cast marks impressed upon it. These marks seem to be random in shape and pattern, mostly being irregular crescents or pellets. The reverse face is flat and undecorated. The weight is a mid cream grey colour with an even, but slightly corroded and abraded, patina which covers all surfaces. This weight is most likely to date from the later medieval period, although a direct parallel has not been found.
The weight measures 30.3mm in diameter and is 8.3mm thick. It weighs 45.18 grams or 1.6 ozs (698 grains).
