A fragment of Roman brooch of Colchester two-piece derivative type, c. 1st century AD. All that remains are the cross-bar and top half of the bow. The top of the bow has a remaining central ridge, the top of which would have been a spring hook. The remains of the cross-bar is C-shaped in cross-section. The lower half of the brooch, including the foot and catchplate is missing, as is the spring and pin. The remains have an even green patina, with a large degree of copper alloy colouration showing underneath. The fragment weighs 5.0g and measures 16.9 mm long, 22.9 mm wide (at cross-bar), 9.2 mm maximum thickness. Cf. Hattatt 2007, Fig. 156.
