Incomplete Roman silver pin of Cool's Group 2, sub-type A (knob-on-cordon head, spherical sub-type). There is an incised diagonal cross or saltire just off centre on the top of the pin head. It is 38.29mm long, the head has a diameter of 6.64mm and is 5.07mm thick. The shaft is 2.57mm in diameter, tapering to 2.29mm at the break. It weighs 2.22 grams.

Pins of this form have been found in Roman contexts from the 1st to 4th century AD (Cool 1990, 154).

The object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old. Consequently it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 in terms of both age and precious metal content.
