Early medieval lead alloy cruciform brooch knop, 18mm long, 19mm wide and 4mm thick. The object is in good condition and weighs 5.39grams. The object is sub rectangular in form with a rounded outer edge and a flat edge opposite this which has a rectangular sectioned fixing prong emerging from it. The object has a hollow underside and is missing one of its egdes. It is decorated with a stylised animal head which has a prominent brow ridge, nose and eye socket formed of a raised line. It has round eyes set inside the sockets and two round 'nostrils' set either side of a small indentation in the centre of the rounded edge. To one side of the head a bird emerges with a narrow curved head and raised circular eye. Its pointed beak curves inwards and joins the main head near its 'brows'. The other side of the head has a slight scar showing that a mirror image of the bird was once present.
