A medieval buckle plate made of copper alloy with only the front sheet surviving. It is rectangular in shape and measures 28.8mm in length and 22.8mm in width. The plate is recessed for the missing frame and has a rectangular pin slot, with two tabs to act as hinges round the bar. The front face is decorated with a dragon or bird like animal in side profile, the metal around it has been removed to form the outline. The bird faces right and has a long curving neck, a single foot under the body, and a strange large tail which forks and curls. There is a rivet hole in each corner of the attachment edge. One dome headed rivet survives. The plate has a brown patina with patches of green. A buckle plate of different shape but with a similar design is SF-74B385. Other similar examples are CAM-DB88D7, WAW-650E12 and LVPL-D5B693. It probably dates from the 13th or 14th century.
