An incomplete Medieval (14th century) silver-gilt finger-ring, consisting of the bezel and about half of the hoop. The hoop is somewhat straightened.

The bezel (which is soldered to the hoop) is a cast-in-one quatrefoil with a moulded heart at the centre and each petal divided in two longitudinally with a groove. One side is plain while the other decorated with incised transverse lines. The petals turn slightly upwards at the ends. Projecting at opposing sides, above and below the band, are two 'sprigs' or clusters of three spherical pellets.

The hoop joins underneath the bezel. It is flat to the reverse and transversely fluted to the upper face, joining with a central ridge to give a diamond-shaped flat area filled with a cross pattée. Three of these survive. The hoop measures 5.09x1.74mm at the break.

The gilding has survived almost intact.Dimensions and metal content: The finger-ring measures 30.39x(max)13.10x3.62mm and weighs 3.45g.

The precious metal content fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10%. Katie Hinds
