A copper-alloy nail or stud, probably from an item of furniture. The object is likely to be Roman, and this is supported by the fact that it came from an area from which other Roman finds have been recovered, including other furniture nails/studs. The object has a plano-convex head and a square sectioned shaft which appears to be complete and tapers to a point on two sides. Similar examples were excavated from Roman Colchester (see Crummy 1983, page 115; Figure 116). The object measures 21.97 mm long, is 9.8 mm wide across the head and weighs 3.6 grams.
