An incomplete copper-alloy Langton Down brooch of Roman (1st century) date.
The head comprises a horizontally-aligned cylinder (slightly damaged) which encases the spring. The now-missing pin would originally have extended from a vertical slit at the centre of the underside. The bow extends downwards at 90 degrees. It is of thin section, has a central vertical ridge on the upper surface, and sides which gradually converge towards the point of the break.
The surfaces of the artefact are slightly corroded. The brooch measures 20.5mm long, 20.1mm wide (head) and weighs 4.75g.
