A cast copper alloy strap fitting; decorative mount. In plan the mount is sub-circular. The centre of the mount is domed and has a moulded collar at the apex and a concentric ridge along the border. The reverse of the mount is undecorated and is hollow. There are two integral, oval sectioned studs which are vertical and broken. The surface of the mount has an incomplete grey shiny patina with patches of red copper corrosion. The mount is 23.87mm long, 22.24mm wide across the head and 12.28mm thick from the apex to the stud terminal. It weighs 5g.
The mount probably dates to the Post Medieval period as a comparison of the style and surface condition cannot be found in the Medieval period. Strap mounts in the Medieval period were popular during the 13th to early 16th centuries with some types continuing into the 17th century as harness mounts (Egan, G. 2005 Material Culture in London in an Age of Transition MoLAS Monograph 19 p. 39).
