A cast copper double looped oval shaped buckle. The loops are undecorated, but the outer edge is obliquely angled. The loops expand slightly in width towards the apex. The reverse is undecorated, but is also obliquely angled on the interior edge. The strap bar is narrowed, and is semi-circular in section. In profile the buckle forms a very wide 'V' shape with the strap bar forming the apex. The pin is missing. The buckle frame has an abraded surface with traces of a dark green patina. The buckle measures 22.55mm long and 16.72mm wide. It weighs 1.9g.
Egan and Pritchard (2002 Dress Accessories Boydell Press) date a similar shaped buckle (No. 380) to the late 13th to 14th century. Due to the size of the frame Egan and Pritchard (2002) comment that they were probably produced for a specialised function, but what this function is, is unknown.
