A Medieval ceramic body sherd from a Coarse Border Ware vessel: a cistern dating 1340-1500. This body sherd includes the bunghole which was originally located near the base. The fragment is very worn and the outer applied collar to the bunghole is missing but the stabbed radiating lines around it are still visible. The fabric is beige and reduced throughout and is hard with an irregular, coarse texture. The external surface is partially covered with a mottled dark green glaze which extends down to the upper margins of the bunghole.
Similar cisterns are illustrated in Pearce & Vince (1988:157) and the fabric is discussed on p.9.
