Early Medieval 11th century Viking period cast copper alloy stirrup-strap mount. Sub-triangular in plan with a pair of debased animal head projections at the bottom corners. The apex is broken off across a rivet hole; there are two further rivet holes in the lower edge. On the reverse is a flange projecting at 90 degrees (length 5mm, width 15mm). The face of the mount appears to have been undecorated except for a simple incised line border. Red-brown metal. Length 35.0mm, width 33.6mm, thickness including flange 8.2mm, thikcness not including flange 2.5mm, weight 12.27g.
This appears to be an unclassified mount on Williams Class A. See Williams p.80-83, no.s 372, 373 and 379 for similar triangular mounts with projecting heads from the lower edge, which Wililams suggests may be developments of Class A Type 8.
