A cast lead pencil which is sub rectangular in plan and sub square in cross section with rounded edges. It tapers to a pointed terminal at one end and a broken but slightly flattening corroded stump at the other. The pencil is a light cream colour which is a heavy patina which covers all surfaces. It measures 63.56mm length, 6.13mm width, is 5.71mm thick, and weighs 13.8g.
Similar objects have been recorded by the PAS (NARC-88EE88) and can be seen in Egan (Egan, G. 1998 The Medieval Household: Daily Living c. 1150 - c. 1450 The Stationary Office: London) p. 271, No. 896.
