A Post Medieval cast copper alloy dress hook. The dress hook is made of a single piece of cast copper alloy. The body of the dress hook is an elongated trapezoid in plan. In section the body is semi-circular with slide flanges. The outer face of the dress hook body is undecorated. The reverse of the body is concave with an open upper edge. The lower edge has an integral tapering hook which is incomplete. The sides of the body has solder traces, and traces of the plate which is now missing. The surface of the dress hook is slightly abraded. The dress hook measures 30.11mm long, 14.94mm wide and 7.93mm thick. It weighs 5.1g.
The dress hook is the 'lantern' type and date to the 16th century (Gaimster, D. 2002 'Tudor Silver-Gilt Dress Hooks: A New Class of Treasure Find in England' Antiquaries Journal Vol. 82 p. 157-196.)
