Unique ID: WAW-0A0543

Object type certainty: Possibly
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A fragment of a cast copper alloy Iron Age fitting. In plan it is asymetrical rectangle with two original edges, the others are broken, but not recently. The original edges are moulded with the corner forming a sub pointed oval and a convex longer edge. The upper surface has two comma shaped cells filled with red enamel, one cell is almost complete and the other is fragmentary. The reverse of the object appears to have a large cell but the edges are corroded and abraded. The fragment measures 39.61mm long, 19.89mm wide, 7.34mm thick and weighs 16.1g.

The fragment is dated to the later Iron Age, -300 to 100 AD. but the function is uncertain. It is possibly a harness fitting, but this is not certain.
