A fragment probably from a Roman bow-and-fantail type brooch, dating from 50-150AD. It consists of the fan and a short section of the catch plate. The fan is plain, with no decoration. A brooch with plain fan can be seen illustrated in Hattatt's Visual Catalogue, figure 174, number 75. The fragment is 16.4mm long, 22.6mm wide and 6.6mm thick. It weighs 2.79gm.
