A rimsherd of a wheelthrown salt glazed ceramic vessel.

The sherd is 6.77mm thick and weighs 20.4g. It is 50.36mm long and 36.24mm wide. The rim diameter of the sherd is 4cm wide.

The sherd consists of a neck and rim fragment, most likely from a jug, in a light grey stoneware fabric. The exterior surface is a dark brown mottled colour with a salt glaze (orange peel glaze). The interior surface is a lighter mottled brown colour. This fabric is consistent with that of an imported German stoneware, mostly likely from the Frechen area (10km southwest of Cologne). Frechen ware was imported into Britain from the second half of 16th century up until the early 18th century.
