A probable fragment of Roman vessel handle. Only one end of the handle survives, which would have been riveted to the vessel. The terminal is pear-shaped with break at the lower end across the springing of a narrowed shank, the handle proper. There are two copper alloy rivets (heads, diameter circa 6mm) with the shanks hammered and flattened on reverse (diameters 13 - 16mm). The metal has a grey green patina. Part of the wall of the vessel survives behind the rivets. This vessel probably dates from the 2nd or 3rd century, but a medieval date cannot be ruled out. Compare to NMS-A41A63.
