An incomplete Late Roman silver finger ring (Treasure reference no. 2010 T498). The ring is of the so-called 'Brancaster' type (Johns 1996, The Jewellery of Roman Britain, pp 53-54). The bezel is flat, rectangular and decorated with a motif comprising two small circles, a line to one side and further lines extending from one of the circles. The motif is worn and difficult to interpret, but possibly represents an animal.

Only a small part of either shoulder remains. The most complete shoulders has a transverse beaded line next to the bezel, followed by three hatched ribs.

The present ring can be compared to three other finger rings found together with a hoard of coins ranging from Postumus to Theodosius I (AD 379-95) at Amesbury, Wiltshire in 1843. Two of the three finger rings were decorated with animal scenes; one depicts a griffin and the other a stag and a bird (Kent & Painter, 1977, p62).

It has been published by Gerrard and Henig (2017, 248/pl. 6.48; cat. 48).
