A worn and incomplete Late Iron Age to Roman copper-alloy Rosette brooch of complex riveted type (c. 25 - c. 65 AD). It is missing parts of the central disc, the catch-plate, head and sprung pin due to old breaks. Emerging at a right angle and extending forwards from the missing spring case is a short and integrally cast bow that is incomplete and lost any detailed decoration due to the poor survival of the object. Beneath the bow is the remains of the rosette. This is formed from two thin sheets of copper-alloy that were probably originally circular in shape but are now mostly incomplete due to old, abraded breaks. Beneath the rosette is a flat rectangular foot held in place by the same central rivet that pierces the rosette and which has a flattened rectangular head on the lower surface of the foot. The upper surface of the foot has three sets of molded double vertical grooves and fluted decoration and has abraded edges. On the lower surface of the foot the catch-plate remains in a damaged form due to old breaks and only partially remains. The copper alloy has a green patina of varying colour, consisting of a dark green patina on the majority of the artefact apart from the thin sheets of copper-alloy which has a lighter green patina. Similar examples can be found in Hattatt (2000, 309).
