A thimble made from cast copper alloy. The thimble is made with a single shell. The exterior of the shell has a plain rim. There are are two cracks in the rim. Above the rim there are rows of conical cells which cover the thimble, but not the apex of the thimble. The sides of the thimble are straight and tapers slightly towards the domed top. The thimble is quite tall in profile. The exterior surface of the thimble has a well developed shiny mid green patina. The thimble is 21.9mm long and 21.27mm diameter. It weighs 7.3g.

The thimble is dated to the late Medieval period. Geake (Geake 2001 Finds Recording Guide 1.1 unpublished) comments that taller thimbles such as this can date to the 15th century. Holmes (Holmes, E.F. 'Sewing Thimbles' Datasheet 9 finds Research Group) in Figure 2b illustrates a similar shaped and decorated thimble which he dates to the 15th to mid 16th century and calls it a heavy duty thimble.
