These sherds form part of a collection of 60 sherds of Roman and Medieval pottery that was submitted for identification in November 2009. These reports detail the finds and fabrics and where possible, dates and wares.
A collection of 12 grey ware rim sherds of varying fabric density, but all with red and/or black iron oxide flecks and some mica, which indicates their local Thames Valley source. Sample represents jars, pitchers and dishes / bowls. This collection is representative of rims found on site. Style of some of the fragments suggests an early date. Locally produced grey wares. AD 43-199.
Notes on the two Medieval sherds from this bag can be found under BERK-3D9350.
Notes:
The assemblage is from a pasture field close to the River Thame, and was discovered during groundworks.
